TORNADO SPECTRAL SYSTEMS Real-time determination of EVA crosslinking with Raman spectroscopy during photovoltaic manufacturing - Tornado Spectral Systems' HyperFlux U1 spectrometer was deployed for Raman analysis to determine the degree of curing of ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) in a photovoltaic module manufacturing line and was shown to have enough sensitivity and speed to be an effective tool for real-time, in-line quality control and process optimization, with results equivalent to conventional laboratory tests and analysis times of only 100 milliseconds per point. Raman spectroscopy is a versatile alternative for industrial measurements and highly suitable for this application because as a purely optical method it enables a fast, contact-free, non-destructive analysis.

Microbead encapsulation of living plant protoplasts: a new tool for the handling of single plant cellsThe publication introduces a protocol for the incorporation of individual plant protoplasts into precisely sized agarose microbeads and gives plant scientists new ways of dissecting the biophysical background of plant development. Using the 3D Flow Focusing Chip, water-based (agarose) droplets are formed as discontinuous phase. The 3D flow focusing structure is particularly useful to avoid channel fouling by utilising a "pore" structure on the outlet side of the droplet-forming junction. Green microfluidic synthesis of monodisperse silver nanoparticles via genetic algorithm optimization - This month we would like to highlight a paper published in RSC Advances. This paper describes the green and scalable synthesis of monodisperse silver nanoparticles. The synthesis made use of the Syrris Asia reactor and an optimization algorithm to rapidly screen for optimal reaction conditions for nanoparticle formation. This automated approach provided monodisperse silver nanoparticles in a rapid manner with little need for human skill or intuition, essential for method standardization and implementation.
